Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the ASEAN summit starting on Sunday (October 26). Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim himself shared this information through a social media post. It is noteworthy that PM Modi also spoke to him on phone. PM Modi shared a post on Twitter wishing him all the best for the ASEAN summit.

This year Malaysia is presiding over the ASEAN Summit. It will be held in Kuala Lumpur. Prime Minister Modi is not going to Malaysia for this summit. However, he spoke to the Malaysian Prime Minister on Wednesday night (October 22). Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar shared a post saying, “Last night I received a call from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which we discussed efforts to strengthen Malaysia-India bilateral relations on a more strategic and comprehensive level.”

“He told me that because of Diwali, which will be celebrated in India at that time, he will participate in the summit online,” Anwar Ibrahim said. I respect his decision and wish him and the people of India a very happy Diwali.
