New Delhi. Indian Coast Guard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) Mumbai in coordination with Omani authorities carried out a prompt and successful rescue operation. All 24 Indian sailors on board have been rescued safely, following a missile attack on a merchant oil tanker off the Oman coast. According to the Indian Coast Guard, the incident came to light on June 8, 2026, at around 2:20 pm, when MRCC Mumbai received information that Palau flagged oil tanker ‘MT Marivex’ was hit by a missile while anchored off the coast of Masirah, Oman. There were a total of 24 crew members on board the ship and all were Indian citizens. This information was given to MRCC Mumbai by the family of a sailor present on the ship. Considering the seriousness of the situation, MRCC Mumbai immediately contacted Oman Maritime Search and Rescue Center and requested them to take charge of the search and rescue operation and provide immediate assistance to the crew.
Oman’s rescue center immediately dispatched a nearby ship to the scene and deployed two helicopters for rescue operations. There was continuous coordination between MRCC Mumbai, OMSC Oman and other concerned agencies throughout the operation.
At around 5 pm, Omani officials confirmed that all 24 Indian sailors had been evacuated safely with the help of naval helicopters. All sailors are safe and no injuries or casualties have been reported. The affected ship is currently anchored off the coast of Masirah, Oman.
Indian Coast Guard said that this successful operation is an excellent example of international maritime cooperation and strong coordination between regional rescue agencies. It also reflects the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Indian sailors in distress in any part of the world.
