Jaipur. A major accident was averted in Jaipur on Friday. A moving bus of Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) caught fire near Mansarovar RICO intersection.
About 60 passengers managed to get out of the bus in time and there were no casualties, although the bus was completely burnt within half an hour. The incident occurred around 2:40 pm. According to fire department officials, the bus was going from Sindhi Camp bus stand in Jaipur towards Kekri. Smoke was seen rising from it near Mansarovar IICO intersection, after which flames were seen.
Passengers said that as the fire intensified, chaos spread inside the bus. The driver immediately stopped the bus on the roadside and directed the passengers to get out. Within a few minutes all the passengers got off the bus safely.
Eyewitnesses said that the fire soon engulfed the entire bus.
Mansarovar Fire Station firefighter Shakuntala Saini said that in the preliminary investigation it is believed to be a fire caused by short circuit. According to the investigation so far, the fire started in the wiring system and soon spread to the engine. After this the fire flared up rapidly.
On receiving the information, two fire tenders from Mansarovar Fire Station reached the spot. Firefighters controlled the fire for about 30 minutes. However, by then the bus was almost completely burnt.
Police and fire officials confirmed that no one was injured and there were no reports of burns. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to find out the actual cause of the fire and assess the level of damage.
