Jaipur,. Coming out of the darkness of broken dreams, loss of loved ones and social oppression, when a woman steps on the threshold of ‘Nari Niketan’ (State Women’s House) of Rajasthan Social Justice and Empowerment Department, she not only gets a roof, but also self-respect, self-reliance and a new ray of life. Due to the sensitive leadership and visionary thinking of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, today these centers of the state have become not just shelter homes, but workplaces that change the fortunes of destitute and shelterless girls. At present, the department is running a Mahila Sadan with 150 capacity at the district headquarters of Jaipur division and one Nari Niketan with 50-50 capacity each at the district headquarters of the remaining other divisions, where their lives are being given a new and respectable direction. Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Avinash Gehlot said that the main objective of these institutions is to provide security to socially oppressed and destitute women who are victims of immoral circumstances and to infuse new life among them. Here women are provided free accommodation, food, clothing and medical facilities in a safe environment. Festivals and cultural celebrations are also organized collectively here, so that women do not feel lonely. They are also provided modern training like advanced tailoring-embroidery and beautician courses. When more than 1400 relatives came for 11 housewives-The most vivid example of this positive change and ever-increasing rehabilitation was seen recently in Rajya Mahila Sadan, Jaipur. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, when a public release was issued for the marriage of 11 eligible girls of the institute, a big change was seen in the thinking of the society. More than 1900 highly educated and qualified youth from across the state applied for marriage with these 11 daughters. The department selected the grooms only after thorough investigation of not only their financial condition but also police verification and family background. These weddings are organized with great pomp like that of an influential family, where the Chief Minister himself and administrative officials arrive to perform ‘Kanyadan’ and give blessings.Increasing expenditure on women’s welfare-Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Gehlot said that the state government has spent Rs 1613.35 lakh in the last two and a half years on the rehabilitation and welfare of 1006 women living in Mahila Sadan and Nari Niketans. Out of these Nari Niketan residents, more than 30 women have been rehabilitated through marriage and 218 women have been given skill development training. These figures reflect the serious commitment of the state government towards the welfare and rehabilitation of women.Nari Niketan becomes the new address of empowerment-The work that Nari Niketan of Rajasthan is doing to leave behind the bitter experiences of the past and shape the future is an example for the society. The sensitivity of Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma is a living proof that if given proper protection, security and opportunities, even the most deprived women of the society can live with dignity. Nari Niketan has now become a ‘new and permanent address of empowerment’ for destitute women.
