Rudaval. Friday evening was no less than a nightmare for the Rudaval area. The sudden change in the mood of the weather took the form of ‘Tandav’ in no time. The fierce storm, torrential rain and merciless hailstorm not only covered the land with a white sheet, but also turned the pace of development and the hopes of the farmers into ruins. This attack of nature was most fatal in villages like Kothi Kheda and Santonkpura, where life has become completely disrupted.
This natural disaster has left many families emotionally and physically broken. Hari Singh Meena of Santonkpura, who was returning home on his bike, when a tree fell on him, not only hurt his body but also hurt the peace of his family. At the same time, Raju Prajapat, who was feeling safe in the courtyard of his own house, got seriously injured by getting buried under a branch, which shows that even the walls that are called ‘safe’ become meaningless at the time of disaster. At another place, the Bolero vehicle that was damaged by a wall collapse was the capital of a family’s years of hard work, which has now been turned into a pile of iron. The tremendous speed of the storm has broken the back of the electrical infrastructure of the area. Dozens of electric poles shattered like a deck of cards and high-tension line wires broke and fell to the ground. The entire area is facing ‘blackout’ since Friday evening. From a developmental point of view, relief work has also been affected due to communication and power outages. Although the electricity department teams are active, the damage is so extensive that it is expected to take time to restore normalcy.
The biggest blow has fallen on the food provider, whose golden crop was ready to be harvested and sent to the barn. In the fields of Kothi Kheda and Santonkpura, hailstorm has mixed the crops with ‘soil’. Farmers say that this is not just a loss of crops but also a killing of their children’s hopes of education, marriages and loan repayment.
In this hour of crisis, the behavioral anger of the villagers is also coming to the fore. The affected families and farmers have unanimously demanded from the administration that instead of paper supply, ‘Special Girdawari’ should be done on the ground. Villagers say that only quick financial assistance can save them from this shock.
This tragedy at Rudaval reminds us how vulnerable our infrastructure is in this era of climate change. At present, the treatment of the injured is going on and the entire area is hopeful that the administration will listen to their sobs and come forward with relief balm.
