The United Nations Coordination Agency for Humanitarian Relief (OCHA) has warned that about one million people have been affected by the devastating floods in South Sudan. Tweet URL
Since last month, floods have affected more than 140 health facilities, disrupting access to essential services for thousands of people. This disaster has come at a time when the country is struggling with the outbreak of diseases like cholera and malaria. In fact, last week, World Health Organization ,WHO) has reported more than 14,000 cases of malaria across the country, including 16 deaths. This is a 15 percent increase from the previous week, largely due to flooding. The ongoing war and severe food insecurity have worsened the disaster caused by the floods. Assistance agencies’ response The United Nations and its partner organizations are continuing to provide relief to flood-affected people, despite access challenges to some parts of the country. These agencies are also assessing needs to ensure that assistance responses remain targeted.world food program ,WFP) is delivering food and nutrition assistance on the ground. The World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners have delivered more than 50 metric tons of medical supplies to support relief efforts in Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile provinces. Additional assistance is also being delivered, including tents, cholera kits and emergency health kits.
