Bihar government has announced a major urban development plan in Muzaffarpur district. Under this, a new ‘Tirhut Township’ will be developed in an area of 20,200 acres, which will include a total of 68 villages. This ambitious project is being considered as one of the largest urban expansion projects in the state.
According to the government plan, the purchase and sale of land in this area has been banned till June 30, 2027, so that there is no hindrance in the development work of the project and the land acquisition process can be completed smoothly.
Under this township project, the affected ryots will be given the benefit of developed land in exchange for their land. According to the plan, farmers and land owners will be provided 55 percent developed land in exchange for their given land, so that they can directly benefit from urban development.
This project is being prepared keeping in mind the modern urban facilities. In this, residential areas, business centres, road network, drainage system, green areas and other infrastructure will be developed. Besides, it will also be linked to airport connectivity, which will boost the connectivity and economic activities of the region.
Tirhut Township is planned to be developed as a modern urban center in the future, which will accelerate the pace of urbanization in Muzaffarpur and surrounding districts.
This project is expected to not only solve the housing problem but also create new employment opportunities. There is a possibility of employment generation on a large scale in sectors like construction, trade, services and transportation.
According to administrative officials, the project aims to promote planned urban development and prevent uncontrolled expansion. Along with this, making farmers and land owners also partners in the development process is an important part of this scheme.
However, emphasis is also being laid on maintaining monitoring and transparency at the local level regarding the land acquisition and development process, so that no dispute of any kind arises.
Mixed reactions are being seen among the local people regarding this scheme. Some people are considering this as a big opportunity for the development of the area, while some tenants are also worried about their land and future.
Overall, this project has the potential to bring about a major change in the urban fabric of Muzaffarpur and the area may become one of the major developed urban centers of Bihar in the coming years.
