Noida. After two days of violent protests over salary hike in the industrial city of Noida adjacent to Delhi, the situation started returning to normal on Wednesday. Factories have reopened amid tight security arrangements. The administration has clarified that if any disturbance occurs now, the license of the concerned outsourcing agency will be canceled and it will be blacklisted. 16 companies of RAF and PAC have been deployed to maintain peace in the industrial areas of the city. Sensitive areas are being monitored from moment to moment through drones and CCTV cameras. Police have so far arrested 396 people, including 4 women, in connection with violence and vandalism. District Magistrate Medha Rupam took a tough stance in the meeting with contractors and outsourcing agencies and said that it is the responsibility of the agency to keep its employees in discipline. He directed to immediately implement the new salary standards set by the government:
Unskilled labor: ₹13,690 per month
Semi-skilled workers: ₹15,059 per month
Skilled workers: ₹16,868 per month
Conspiracy vs compulsion: Political attack and counterattack. Major leaders of the country have reacted sharply to this violence in Noida:
CM Yogi Adityanath: He warned those instigating industrial unrest and said that the government will provide protection to workers and security to entrepreneurs. Minimum wage will be guaranteed without any middleman.
Rahul Gandhi: The Rae Bareli MP called it the “last scream” of the workers, which went unheard for a long time.
Akhilesh Yadav: SP chief accused the government of making the excuse of ‘conspiracy’ to hide its failures.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh: Former BJP MP also took the side of the workers and said that the current wages are not respectable and should be increased.
What was the matter?
Thousands of workers took to the streets on Monday and Tuesday demanding increase in salaries. During this period, stones were pelted at more than 80 places and about 350 companies were vandalized. Entrepreneurs allege that outside elements spoiled the atmosphere, while the unions have distanced themselves from violence.
At present, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna has said that the situation is completely under control. Work has started in most of the industries from Sector-1 to 6 and notices of salary hike have been pasted outside the companies.
