Nuh. Farmers in Nuh district of Haryana are now moving beyond traditional farming and adopting modern techniques of horticulture and earning better profits. The farming being done using new technology has not only increased the income of the farmers, but has also brought a glow of happiness on their faces. With the help of Horticulture Department Nuh, farmers are getting more production in less water by using drip irrigation, mulching and tunnel techniques. Due to this, farming is now becoming a profitable deal. Farmers in Rahpuwa and Satakpuri villages of Pingawan block are showing increasing inclination towards horticulture crops, especially vegetable and fruit crops. Keeping water saving in mind, crops like melon, watermelon, cucumber, gourd, zucchini and bitter gourd are being cultivated in tunnels through drip system and mulching. This is not only reducing the water consumption in irrigation, but also significantly increasing the quality and yield of crops.
Jalaluddin Ahmed, a farmer of Rahpuwa village, said that he has planted watermelon variety of Nunhams Company, which is yielding 70-75 quintals per acre. His total cost on this crop is around Rs 50-60 thousand, whereas in Delhi market, watermelon is being sold at the price of Rs 3,000 to 3,500 per quintal. Due to this, the farmer is getting a net profit of about Rs 2 lakh from one acre.
He told that they cultivate melon, cucumber, bitter gourd, watermelon, tomato etc. It was started 20 years ago, now subsidy is also being received from the government.
Farmer Mohammad Irshad told that earlier we used to do simple farming, but later we came to know about new technology, which is benefiting us. Provides protection from insects and hail. We are farming in thirty-forty acres, in which we have many types of vegetables.
Seeing this success, nearby farmers have also started joining the schemes of the Horticulture Department.
The area was inspected by Dr. Abdul Razzaq, District Officer, Horticulture Department. During this, it was told that the Horticulture Department is providing grants to farmers on various items including drip system, mulching, tunnel farming. Besides, farmers are also being given information about better crop production and marketing methods at right prices. With this, the dream of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of increasing the income of farmers seems to be coming true on the ground.
District Officer Dr. Abdul Razzaq says that farmers in Nuh are doing farming with new technology. They are being given subsidy and these people are growing many types of fruits and vegetables.
