Bhubaneswar, October 25 (). A shocking incident has come to light on October 22 in Chandanpur area of Puri district of Odisha. A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by some of her distant relatives.
This heinous incident came to light when the minor victim lodged a complaint in this regard at Chandanpur police station on Friday.
A local police officer told that the minor lodged a complaint at the police station on Friday that her cousin and brother raped her on October 22 when she was sleeping with her younger sister at home. According to the complaint, the victim’s family had gone to watch the immersion procession of the idols of Goddess Kali.
When the family members returned home, the victim narrated her ordeal to her mother. Local people say that due to pressure from the villagers, the family was initially hesitant in filing the complaint, but on Friday the victim reached the police station with her mother and lodged a complaint against the accused.
Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case and took both the accused into custody. Both are daily wage laborers, who are being interrogated in the police station.
Meanwhile, the main opposition party Biju Janata Dal on Friday strongly condemned this heinous incident.
The party alleged in a press statement that this shocking crime once again exposes the complete failure of law and order in Odisha. BJD has repeatedly reiterated that the law enforcement machinery in the state has failed miserably. The fear of law has ended, while criminals are now working without fear.
BJD also said that in the last 16 months alone, more than 5,000 women have been raped in Odisha, which highlights the deteriorating condition of women under the current government in Odisha.
