New Delhi . AIMIM President and MP Asaduddin Owaisi has expressed displeasure over the increase in airfare for Haj pilgrimage. Owaisi wrote in a post on social media platform This is happening when just a few months ago, Rs 90,844 had been collected from every passenger departing from Mumbai. This is almost double the existing rates for general passengers. He wrote that are Haj pilgrims facing punishment for going through Haj Committee? This is sheer exploitation and nothing else. Most Hajj pilgrims are not rich; They save money for years to go to Hajj.
Owaisi further wrote that this is not a luxury for him. This circular should be immediately withdrawn, and the money recovered from Haj pilgrims should be returned to them. He wrote that Sir Kiren Rijiju should withdraw this circular; This is not fair.
Let us inform that through a letter dated April 28, the Haj Committee had informed that all the pilgrims of Haj 2026 are informed that in view of the extraordinary circumstances arising out of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has approved a one-time amendment in the airfare for air charter operations.
The Haj Committee said the revised airfares include an additional amount of USD 100 per pilgrim, irrespective of their departure point, which will have to be borne by the pilgrims themselves.
The Haj Committee informed that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the repeated requests made by the airlines, in which they had demanded an increase of more than 400 USD in the base fare due to the huge increase in the prices of aviation turbine fuel due to the current situation in the Middle East; This decision has been taken after properly investigating the facts and consulting all concerned parties.
