Sirsa. All India Congress Committee General Secretary, former Union Minister and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja said that in Haryana, fake gate passes were cut and paddy was sold in the mandis even before it arrived. Paddy was brought from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and sold in the name of the farmers here. This paddy scam has raised big question marks on the transparency and accountability of the BJP government of the state while the government has been claiming corruption-free governance and administration. The government should bring out the truth in this entire issue, take strict action against the culprits and immediately provide the farmers their due rights and relief. The Congress Party stands with the farmers and will continue to raise their voice to protect their rights. In a statement issued to the media, it has been said that the serious allegations being raised regarding the grain procurement system and government financial management in Haryana have put the farmer community of the entire state in deep concern. Reports of widespread irregularities in government procurement of paddy and other crops, abnormally high figures of paper procurement and possible collusion between middlemen and officials have raised big question marks on the transparency and accountability of the government. The purpose of the government procurement system is to provide security and respect to the farmers, not to push them into financial loss and mental stress by ignoring their rights. The allegations of huge increase in paper purchases despite crop loss due to floods also point towards misuse of financial resources of the state, which is worrying. In such circumstances, it becomes necessary that the government stays away from any kind of cover-up and ensures an independent and impartial investigation of the entire matter, so that it becomes clear who are actually responsible for the irregularities. The investigation should not be limited to the lower level only, but should also include all the decision makers and responsible persons at higher levels whose role gave rise to this situation. The authenticity of the MSP promises made to farmers and the actual data of government procurement should be made public transparently, so that they can be assured that the government is acting honestly to protect their interests. MP Kumari Selja said that protecting the respect, safety and rights of farmers is not just a political issue, but is essential for the social and economic stability of the state. Farmers of Haryana are expecting justice today. The MP said that any attempt to hide any kind of corruption or exploitation will not be acceptable. The government should bring out the truth in this entire issue, take strict action against the culprits and immediately provide the farmers their due rights and relief. The Congress Party stands with the farmers and will continue to raise their voice to protect their rights. The MP said that the paddy scam has proved that the government has not been able to curb corruption but it is flourishing under the protection of officials. In Haryana, by obtaining fake gate passes, paddy was sold in the mandis without reaching the market. Paddy was brought from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and sold in the name of the farmers here. The paddy scam has reached the maximum amount of around Rs 80 crore in Yamunanagar and Rs 20 crore in Karnal. The government should bring out the truth in this entire issue, take strict action against the culprits and immediately provide the farmers their due rights and relief. The Congress Party stands with the farmers and will continue to raise their voice to protect their rights.
