Pakistan: Suspected drone attack in KP, three girls killed and four injured

Islamabad, July 5 (). Three girls were killed, while four other members of the same family were injured in a suspected quadcopter (drone) attack in the Lower South Waziristan district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province in the early hours of Sunday. Local media gave this information.

According to local sources, explosives were dropped from a suspected quadcopter drone on a house in Nargasi area of Birmal tehsil. Three girls aged between 6 and 15 years lost their lives in the attack. The injured include a woman and three small boys, who have been admitted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital in Wana for treatment.

According to leading English daily Dawn, after the incident local people reached the spot and started relief and rescue operations. According to hospital sources, treatment of the injured is ongoing and their condition is being monitored.

However, till now no official statement has been issued by the concerned government agencies or security forces of Pakistan on this incident. Nor has the nature, cause or party responsible for the attack been confirmed.

Local people say that such suspicious quadcopter attacks have already taken place in many areas of Birmal tehsil, in which many people have lost their lives. Due to these incidents, there is an atmosphere of fear and insecurity in the area.

Residents allege that the security situation in Lower South Waziristan has continuously deteriorated in the last one and a half years. There has been an increase in incidents of bomb blasts, target killings, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and attacks on security forces.

The local community has demanded an impartial investigation into the incident and appealed to the government to restore law and order and ensure the safety of common citizens.

It is noteworthy that in the same week, a woman was killed and six members of her family were injured in another suspicious drone attack in Hassan Khel area. At the same time, in Bajaur district too, incidents of death and injuries of many people in suspected quadcopter attacks have been reported in recent times.
