A tragic accident occurred on Friday in Bantlab on the outskirts of Jammu city, where part of a small bridge suddenly collapsed. In this accident, three to four laborers got buried under the debris, while one injured laborer has been taken out safely.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when construction or repair work was going on on the bridge. Suddenly a part of the structure collapsed, trapping the workers working there.
As soon as information about the incident was received, the administration, police and relief teams reached the spot. Rescue operation is being conducted on war footing to rescue the workers buried under the debris. The work of removing debris is going on with the help of machines and local resources.
Officials said that an injured laborer was immediately taken to the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Efforts to evacuate other laborers are continuing and the situation is being monitored.
After the accident, the concerned road has been closed as a precautionary measure, so that any other accident can be avoided. Besides, the surrounding area has been evacuated and a security cordon has been created.
In the initial investigation, negligence or structural weakness during construction work is being considered as the cause of the accident. However, a detailed investigation has been ordered to find out the real reasons.
There is anger among the local people regarding this incident. He says that safety standards are not followed in construction work, due to which such accidents occur.
