The new address of the Prime Minister’s Office will be Seva Tirtha… Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Seva Tirtha and Dutva Bhavan today. Seva Teerth Complex is on Dara Shikoh Road and is spread over an area of approximately 2.26 lakh square feet. It is being built at a cost of approximately ₹1,189 crore. The new building complex addresses these problems by bringing together administrative functions with modern, future-ready facilities. Seva Tirtha houses the Prime Minister’s Office, the National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat, which were earlier located at different places. It is a completely “smart office” with high-speed internet, digital archives for a paperless work culture and state-of-the-art conference rooms. Let us tell you what makes the new “Prime Minister Office” special.
When will PM Modi inaugurate?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Seva Teerth and Dutva Bhawan-1 and 2 in Delhi today. He will also address a function at Seva Teerth at around 6 pm. The Prime Minister’s Office said that PM Narendra Modi will name the Seva Teerth Building Complex on Friday at around 1:30 pm. Then he will formally inaugurate Seva Teerth and Dutta Bhawan-1 and 2. The inauguration marks a major change in India’s administrative governance structure and reflects the Prime Minister’s commitment to creating a modern, efficient, accessible and citizen-centric governance ecosystem.
What is special about Seva Tirtha
Seva Tirtha houses the Prime Minister’s Office, the National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat, which were earlier located at different places. The complex has three main buildings: Seva Tirtha-1, which houses the Prime Minister’s Office. Seva Tirtha-2 houses the Cabinet Secretariat, and Seva Tirtha-3 houses the offices of the National Security Advisor and the National Security Council Secretariat. There is a plan to vacate the South and North Block and convert it into a museum for public use. Work has also started on the period museum in North Block. Duty Buildings 1 and 2 house offices of Law, Defence, Finance, Health, Agriculture and many other important ministries. Both building complexes have digitally integrated offices, structured public interaction areas and central reception facilities. Designed as per 4-star GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) standards, these complexes incorporate latest energy systems, water saving practices, waste management solutions and spectacular hall structures. These building complexes have extensive security measures such as smart access control systems, monitoring networks and advanced energy response infrastructure, ensuring a safe and secure environment for officials and visitors.
Last cabinet meeting in South Block
The first cabinet meeting in South Block was held on August 15, 1947 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and now the last cabinet meeting was held here on February 13 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Cabinet meetings have usually been held at the Prime Minister’s home, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, where a separate room has been made for cabinet meetings. But, this is the last cabinet meeting held in South Block before shifting to Seva Teerth.
Why only 13th February?
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is shifting from the British-era South Block to its new address, Seva Tirtha. Coincidentally, on the same day, February 13, 1931, the British had declared New Delhi the capital of Colonial India. The journey from the colonial declaration to this important change shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intention to end the colonial legacy and create a truly self-reliant, self-confident new India.
