New Delhi, May 17 (). President Draupadi Murmu will confer the Padma Awards for the year 2026 on May 25. The Home Ministry gave this information through a social media post.
According to the ministry, the President will confer the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards at the first civilian investiture ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
This year the Government of India has announced a total of 131 Padma Awards. These include 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri awards.
The awardees include 19 women, while 16 people will be honored posthumously.
Padma awards are among the country’s highest civilian honours. These awards, started in the year 1954, are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day.
The objective of these awards is to honor individuals who have made distinguished and outstanding contributions in various fields. These honors are given for notable achievements in fields like art, literature, education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public administration and trade and industry.
