New Delhi . President Draupadi Murmu presented the ‘National Florence Nightingale Awards’ for the year 2026 to nursing personnel at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of International Nurses Day. Union Minister JP Nadda was also present on this occasion. President Draupadi Murmu, in a message, said that nursing personnel exemplify the highest standards of service and play a vital role in providing quality healthcare, often under extremely challenging circumstances.
The awardees include Kulwinder Parhi from Leh, Ujwala Mahadev Soyam from Maharashtra, Lalenthangi Hanamate from Mizoram, Madhu Mala Gurung from Sikkim, Pooja Parmar Rana from Uttarakhand, Geeta Karmakar from West Bengal, Poonam Verma from Chandigarh, Deepa Biju from Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Shravan Kumar Dhaka from Delhi, Raksha Rupo Parvatkar from Goa, Kabita Jagannath from Karnataka, Manjumol VS from Kerala, Ayesha Bibu K from Lakshadweep, Dr. R from Tamil Nadu. Shankar Shanmugam and Major General Lisamma PV from the Indian Army.
National Florence Nightingale Awards are given to registered nurses, midwives, ANMs and lady health visitors who have rendered outstanding services to the Central and State Governments, Union Territories and voluntary organizations.
Each award consists of a merit certificate, a cash prize of Rs 100,000 and a medal. This medal is a symbol of the nation’s gratitude towards the invaluable services rendered by these health warriors.
International Nurses Day is celebrated every year to honor the vital role nurses play in hospitals, clinics, emergency departments and community health care systems around the world. This date is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, whose contributions laid the foundation of modern nursing practices across the world.
This year’s theme is ‘Our Nurses, Our Future, Empowered Nurses Save Lives’. This theme highlights the importance of supporting nurses through safe working conditions, better opportunities and stronger institutional support to improve health care outcomes.
