Noida . Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a visit to Uttar Pradesh on March 28. At around 11:30 am he will inspect the terminal building of Noida International Airport, Jewar located in Gautam Buddha Nagar. After this, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the first phase of Noida International Airport at around 12 noon and will also address a public meeting on this occasion. The inauguration of Noida International Airport is an important milestone in India’s journey towards becoming a global aviation hub. Envisioned as a major international gateway for the National Capital Region (NCR), the airport is a major step towards strengthening the country’s airport infrastructure and enhancing regional and international connectivity. Noida International Airport has been developed as the second international airport for the Delhi NCR region to complement Indira Gandhi International Airport. These two airports together will function as an integrated aviation system, thereby reducing congestion, increasing passenger capacity and positioning Delhi NCR as a leader among global aviation hubs. Noida International Airport is one of the largest greenfield airport projects in India. The first phase of Noida International Airport has been developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with a total investment of about Rs 11,200 crore. The passenger handling capacity of the airport will be 12 million passengers per annum (MPPA) in the initial phase, which can be increased to 70 MPPA after full development. It has a 3,900 meter long runway capable of handling large-sized aircraft, as well as modern navigation systems, including Instrument Landing System (ILS) and advanced airfield lighting, supporting 24-hour all-weather operations.
The airport also has a strong cargo ecosystem, including a multi-modal cargo hub, integrated cargo terminal and logistics zone. The cargo facility is designed to handle over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of cargo per annum, which can be expanded to approximately 18 lakh metric tonnes and also includes a dedicated maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility area of 40 acres.
Noida International Airport has been designed as a sustainable and future-ready infrastructure project, which aims to operate as a zero-emission facility integrating energy-efficient systems and environmentally responsible practices. Its architectural style takes inspiration from Indian heritage, incorporating elements reminiscent of traditional ghats and havelis, thereby blending cultural aesthetics with modern infrastructure.
Strategically located on the Yamuna Expressway, Noida International Airport is planned as a multi-modal transport hub with seamless integration of road, rail, metro and regional transport systems, ensuring efficient connectivity for passengers and freight.
