Varanasi. A record was made on Sunday in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to officials, more than 2.5 lakh saplings were planted in less than an hour, breaking the record set by China.
A historic record was set on Sunday in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Guinness World Records officially recognized it. Guinness World Records official and judge Rishi Nath was present on the spot and confirmed the record by giving certificates to Varanasi Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari and Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal.
Varanasi Municipal Corporation established this record by planting 2,51,446 saplings in the forest being developed in Sujabad-Domri area.
A municipal corporation official said, “Today, Varanasi Municipal Corporation took a historic initiative in PM Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi. Planted more than 2.5 lakh saplings in less than an hour. More than 20,000 citizens participated in this campaign. This is an excellent example of public participation.”
An official said that earlier the record for planting the most trees in an hour was held by China’s Henan Provincial Committee, which had planted 1,53,981 trees in 2018.
“Kashi (Varanasi) crossed this record due to its good planning, extensive public participation and use of modern technology. The entire process was accurately monitored with drone surveillance and digital counting system,” the official said.
Varanasi Municipal Corporation is developing a huge urban forest named “NaMo Forest”, which will be built near the Ganga ghats in about 350 bigha land in Domri area.
A total of 3 lakh saplings will be planted under this project, which includes 2.5 lakh Miyawaki saplings, 10,000 woody trees and 40,000 fruit trees.
Additionally, the project will also include a 4 kilometer long walking path, meditation and yoga plaza, 4 hectare flower park, 2 hectare herbal park, children’s play area and open gym plaza.
This forest will increase biodiversity, strengthen the banks of Ganga and improve the ecological balance.
The municipal corporation is expecting the project to generate an annual income of around Rs 2 crore from the third year, which could increase to Rs 7 crore by the seventh year.
There are also plans to establish a Naturopathy Plaza here in future.
