Once again a serious case of ragging has come to light in Indore’s MGM Medical College. Junior students of the 2025 batch of the college have made serious allegations of ragging against the senior students of the 2024 batch. The special thing about this case is that for the first time, instead of complaining directly to the National Anti-Ragging Committee, the junior students wrote a letter to the college administration and narrated the entire incident.
In the complaint letter, junior students allege that senior students forcefully call them to their flat, where they are made to drink liquor and forced to dance. Students say that if a junior student refuses to participate in such activities, he is misbehaved, beaten and mentally tortured. It has also been said in the complaint that the senior student creates an atmosphere of fear and pressure, due to which the junior student is not able to protest openly.
Allegations of discrimination and ragging
Apart from this, some students have also alleged discrimination and ragging during sports activities. According to the complaint, during cricket matches, junior students are made to field for hours, but they are not given a chance to bat. Despite fielding for a long time, they are not given equal opportunities in the game, which causes mental and physical problems to the junior students.
In the complaint letter, the junior students have clearly identified the senior students accused of ragging. He has given detailed information about the entire incident and has demanded strict action from the college administration to prevent such incidents in future and to provide a safe environment to the new students. On receiving information about this, Dr. Arvind Dhaneria, Dean of MGM Medical College, ordered an immediate investigation.
Second complaint in a month
According to the Dean, the complaint has been taken seriously and investigation has been started. As part of the investigation, statements of both junior and senior parties have been recorded. During the statement, the junior students identified the senior students who indulged in ragging and narrated the entire incident. Cases of ragging have already come to light in MGM Medical College, Indore, which raises questions on the image of the college. A few days ago, junior students had lodged a complaint that senior students called them to the flat and beat them up. They also forced them to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. Junior students had alleged that they were held hostage for three hours. Four senior students were suspended for a month, but still there has been no improvement in the students. This is the second case of ragging in a month. The administration says that after the completion of the investigation, strict action will be taken against the guilty students as per the rules so that the bad habit of ragging can be completely eliminated from the college.
