Jaipur. Governor Haribhau Bagde said that legal education is directly related to society. Students should use it for the welfare of the needy, oppressed and deprived sections. He called for always keeping the interests of the nation and society at the forefront in legal education and making Rajasthan a leader in this education with high constitutional values. Bagde was addressing the third convocation ceremony of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Law University, Jaipur on Wednesday. He said that convocation is a day to celebrate the assimilation of the knowledge gained by the students. In Taittiriya Upanishad, there is mention of Acharya’s convocation at the end of his education. He said that when the education in Gurukul was completed, the Guru used to give the last sermon to his disciple. This advice was related to following the path of truth, practicing religion and not being proud of the education one has received. This is today’s convocation ceremony. Recalling Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar, the Governor said that in the Bombay Assembly in the year 1938, he had said, “I want all people to be Indians first and ultimately Indians and nothing else but Indians.” He said that the core of legal education should also be that first of all we are Indians, only then we come from any class, caste or community. Country is supreme.
Bagde said that while holding the post of the first Law Minister of independent India, Baba Saheb got the laws passed to establish equality by eradicating the rights of the deprived classes and the distinction of high and low. Recalling Bachchraj Vyas of Didwana, he said that he never lost any case. The main reason for this was that he took the parties seriously, studied all aspects of the case closely and was deeply knowledgeable about the values related to the Constitution. He said that if we proceed seriously in legal education by taking the wealth of words along with Indian civilization and culture, then we will get success in all fields. He termed the tradition of abusing in the name of protest as against the Constitution and said that the words spoken never come back. Therefore one should always be cautious while speaking.
Union Law and Justice Minister (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal said that Dr. Ambedkar was not only a legal expert, he was a great economist, psychologist, writer and knowledgeable on various subjects. He became a member of the Bombay Legislative Council in 1927, becoming the country’s first law minister. I am proud that Prime Minister Modi has made me the Law Minister of the country in the same tradition. He said that the university should organize a lecture series on various dimensions of the personality of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. With this, the new generation will be able to know him deeply as a holistic intellectual personality instead of the one-sided perspective associated with him.
Meghwal said that the British had to punish Indian citizens, hence penal code laws were made. Prime Minister Modi’s intention is that the citizens of the nation should get justice, hence the initiative of Indian Justice Code has been initiated in the country by changing the old laws. He said that Dr. Ambedkar was specially honored by Columbia University in 1952 on the basis of his overall knowledge. He was given the greater title of “Symbol and Knowledge”. He called for making life successful by taking inspiration from the knowledge and ideals of such a great man.
Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister Dr. Premchand Bairwa, remembering Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, said that education of law and justice is most important in fulfilling the resolve of developed India. He said that initiatives have been taken to provide global level education in Rajasthan. He called for making India a leading superpower of the world through legal education.
Governor Bagde, Union Law Minister Meghwal and Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa presented degrees and medals to the students.
Governor Bagde made the degrees of more than 25 thousand students who received initiation live by pressing the button of the computer in Digi Locker. Earlier, in the welcome address, Vice Chancellor Dr. Nishtha Jaswal explained in detail about the achievements of the university.
