Chennai. AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami started a vigorous campaign in Tiruvallur district. In this he raised the slogan ‘Save the people, save Tamil Nadu’ and launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK government. Addressing a public meeting in Kavaraipettai, Palaniswami accused the DMK of failing the people of Tamil Nadu on every front and said the state was being run without any direction. “The DMK government is like a car without an engine. For the last 10 years, it has been pulled only by its alliance partners,” he said. Hitting out at AIADMK’s critics, Palaniswami said the party has time and again proved its strength by defeating its political opponents. “Some people claim that if the AIADMK forms an alliance with other parties, it becomes communal. When the DMK formed an alliance, weren’t they with the same parties? Double standards cannot remain hidden from people,” he said.
The AIADMK leader accused the DMK government of neglecting farmers and farm labourers. He said, “In the last 56 months, the DMK has done nothing for the farmers. It is only due to pressure from the AIADMK that the central government increased the number of days of guaranteed employment under ‘MNREGA’ from 100 to 125.”
Palaniswami further alleged that internal cracks were growing within the ruling coalition. “There is unrest within the DMK front. Alliance partners like VCK and CPI are also now demanding a share in power. This clearly shows the instability of the government,” he said.
Launching a scathing attack on the state’s financial management, Palaniswami accused the DMK of pushing Tamil Nadu into debt. He said, “Tamil Nadu has become the number one state in borrowing. The Chief Minister has put the debt burden on the coming generations. To repay these loans, the government will impose more taxes on the people.”
He also criticized the formation of a financial monitoring committee, and alleged that despite its formation, the state’s debt has only increased. “Instead of reducing the burden, the government is taking on more debt, pushing people deeper into financial trouble,” he said.
At the end of his speech, Palaniswami asserted that the AIADMK would be victorious in the coming elections and form the next government in Tamil Nadu. He said that people are watching. The time has come to defeat this incompetent government and restore good governance.
