Chennai . Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay will address a major election rally at Vijayamangalam in Erode district in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. This is his first major public event in the state after the September 27 Karur tragedy. The rally, to be held between 11 am and 1 pm, is politically significant as it is being organized by expelled senior AIADMK leader A. It is taking place in the hometown of Sengottaiyan, who has joined TVK after resigning as Gobichettipalayam MLA. Around 35,000 people are expected to attend the event to be held near Vijayamangalam toll booth on Perundurai Highway. To handle the crowd, the ground has been divided into 72 parts, each part of which can accommodate about 400 people. Organizers have installed four levels of barricades to control the crowd and ensure safety, and have kept a 50-metre buffer between Vijay’s campaign vehicle and the crowd.
The specially designed publicity van, which was brought to the venue late on Wednesday night, has been strengthened with iron sheets to prevent any intrusion by enthusiastic supporters. The arrangements made at the rally reflect a comprehensive plan.
Two lakh half liter water bottles will be distributed to the attendees, while 20 temporary drinking water tanks and 20 mobile toilet units have been installed across the venue.
60 CCTV cameras along with drone surveillance have been installed to keep an eye on crowd and vehicle movement. Medical preparedness includes a team of 58 doctors and 14 ambulances deployed at the venue to deal with emergencies. Fourteen entry and exit routes have been designed to ensure smooth movement of both the public and volunteers.
Parking arrangements have been made one kilometer away from the rally venue, in which 20 acres of land has been reserved for two-wheelers and 60 acres for four-wheelers.
A large police force has been deployed for security, with 1,797 personnel deployed to maintain law and order at the venue.
