quota. Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar said that the state government is very serious about the death and health deterioration of pregnant women in Kota and the matter is being thoroughly investigated with full sensitivity, promptness and impartiality. Delhi AIIMS team will also come to Kota on Saturday to investigate and research this matter. The true reasons for this incident can be reached only after receiving the final report. Action will be taken as per the report. He said that negligence will not be tolerated at any level in health services. The Medical Minister gave this information while interacting with the media representatives on Thursday after taking stock of the health services at New Medical College Hospital and JK Lone Hospital in Kota, meeting the pregnant women and their families and reviewing the case with the officials in the Collectorate Auditorium. He said that this incident is very sad and unfortunate, but the state government is conducting a detailed investigation on every aspect, so that the real reasons can be found out, because so many pregnancies having almost similar complications is a challenging subject from the point of view of investigation. Khinvsar said that in this case, investigation is being done from all the three perspectives – testing of medicines, infection in operation theater and equipment and negligence in treatment and monitoring. It will take two to three weeks to receive the test report of infection in medicines and equipment etc. During this time, AIIMS team will also come here and investigate. Considering the seriousness of the matter, prima facie the doctors and nursing staff involved in the process of treatment and monitoring of pregnant women have been suspended, but no innocent person will be punished and strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty after investigation.
18 thousand deliveries every year in JK Loan and NMCH, maternal mortality rate is only 0.2.
The Medical Minister said that both JK Lone and New Medical College Hospital of Kota are reputed hospitals and every year about 14 lakh patients get treatment in OPD and about 1.5 lakh people get treatment in IPD. Also, about 18 thousand deliveries take place in these two hospitals every year, out of which about 10 thousand deliveries are cesarean, but due to the quality of treatment and better management, the maternal mortality rate here remains at 0.1 to 0.2, which is much lower than the national average. Similarly, quality testing of medicines supplied from RMSCL is done at different levels and the same type of medicines are supplied to different hospitals across the state. In such a situation, the deterioration in the health of many pregnant women simultaneously in these two hospitals is a cause for concern and a matter of thorough investigation. We will get to the bottom of it.
Lives of pregnant women saved due to prompt and better treatment
Khinvsar said that as soon as this matter came to the notice of the state government, showing full seriousness and promptness, a team of specialist doctors from Jaipur was sent to Kota for treatment. Due to prompt and better treatment, it was possible to save the lives of many pregnant women. The department has instructed all medical officers to strictly follow all treatment protocols and SOPs in medical institutions, so that such incidents do not recur in future. Besides, instructions have been given for regular sterilization in hospitals, storage of medicines as per protocol and continuous monitoring.
Assured the family that there will be no shortage in treatment
Before this, the Medical Minister reached New Medical College Hospital and took stock of the health arrangements and met the pregnant women and their families admitted there. He assured the family that the state government will not leave any stone unturned in providing treatment. After this, Mr. Khinvsar also inspected the health services at JK Lone Hospital and met the pregnant women and their families admitted there.
During this, Kota South MLA Sandeep Sharma, Ladpura MLA Kalpana Devi, Divisional Commissioner Anil Kumar Aggarwal, District Collector Piyush Samaria, Principal of Kota Medical College Dr. Nilesh Jain, Superintendent of JK Lone Hospital Dr. Nirmala Sharma, Superintendent of New Medical College Hospital Dr. Ashutosh Sharma and other senior officials were present.
