Washington. US President Donald Trump on Thursday talked about Indo-US relations and his recent phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that he is very close to India and has very good relations with the Indian Prime Minister.
Trump recalled his conversation with PM Modi at a press conference with British Prime Minister Kir Stmper before ending his visit to UK on Thursday.
Trump said, “I have a very good relationship with India. I have a very good relationship with the Prime Minister of India. A few days ago I congratulated him on his birthday. Our relationship is very good.”
For the first time in several months, Trump called Prime Minister Modi and congratulated the 75th birthday on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Modi described Trump as his ‘friend’ in a post on X and thanked him for congratulating him.
PM Modi wrote, “My friend President Trump, thank you for your phone and best wishes on my 75th birthday. Like you I am fully committed to taking Indo-US wide and global partnership to new heights. We support your efforts for peaceful solutions to Ukraine conflict.”
President Trump also posted Truth on social and described the phone call as ‘brilliant’ and thanked him for his support in an attempt to end the struggle in Ukraine.
He said, “My friend Prime Minister Narendra Modi got a great phone call. I wished him a happy birthday. He is doing a great job. Narendra Modi: Thank you for your support in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.”
This phone call took place on the same day when Brendan Lynch, assistant to the US trade representative for South and Central Asia, held a trade talks with India’s Chief Trade talks Rajesh Aggarwal in Delhi.
Both sides described the conversation as ‘positive’.
In the press conference, Trump also said that he is ready to take action against Russia, but only when other European countries also join it.
He further said, “I am ready to do much more, but when those who are fighting for me, they are buying oil from Russia. If oil prices fall, Russia will calm down.”
