Do you often feel that despite working hard day and night, there is no money in your house? Often the reason for this is not your luck, but the wrong arrangement of things in the house. In ancient times, our elders used to pay great attention to the directions while building a house or a courtyard. Today, if you live in an ancestral house, there is no need to break walls or make major repairs. You can bring happiness, peace and prosperity back into your home without spending a single rupee – just by keeping your stuff in the right place. Let’s take a look at these easy methods:
1. Replacement of drinking water vessel
In villages, drinking water vessels are considered sacred. According to Vastu, drinking water should always be kept in the north-east direction (called *Ishaan Kon*). This direction is associated with the gods. The correct location of the water source ensures good health of the household members and prevents unnecessary expenses on illness.
2. Right direction for stove and kitchen
Kitchen is the powerhouse of the house. Try that your stove (whether it is a traditional earthen stove or a gas stove) is in the south-east direction (called *igneous angle*). It is considered very auspicious for the lady of the house to sit facing east while cooking. It is believed that this brings the arrival of Goddess Annapurna (Goddess of food and nutrition) and there is always prosperity in the house.
3. Right corner to keep grains
Grain storage is important for farming families. Year-round crops – such as wheat or rice stored in boxes – should always be kept in the west or south-west direction (called *Nayuritya Kon*). By keeping grains in this direction, they remain safe and there is never any shortage of food in the house.
4. Threshold and Main Door
The main door of the house is the path for positive energy and Goddess Lakshmi. Always keep it clean. Following the traditional practice of sprinkling water at the entrance in the morning and lighting a lamp there in the evening brings prosperity to the house. Make sure there is no garbage or thorny plants near the door.
5. Throw away broken items and garbage
We often keep old things safely thinking that they will be useful some day or the other. However, do not keep broken beds, rusty iron items or broken clocks in any corner of the house. These things hinder the progress of the house.
