The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) of the Gujarat government has emerged as a strong safety net for the people of the state in difficult times. From natural disasters and accidents to serious illnesses and life-saving treatments, the scope of this fund is continuously expanding. Particularly in terms of healthcare assistance, CMRF has provided timely assistance, financial relief and new hope to thousands of families.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund has been made more responsive, agile and people-centric, ensuring that no one in need is deprived of treatment due to financial constraints. Keeping in mind their priority of “people’s lives and health come first”, this fund has become a real source of support and confidence for the common people.

A ray of hope for seriously ill patients
To avail assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, the applicant’s annual income should be less than ₹4 lakh (₹6 lakh for senior citizens). Residence certificate, detailed estimate of treatment and necessary medical documents are required. After receiving the application, the Revenue Department does a thorough verification. The entire file is then sent to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund Committee, which consists of the Relief Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue), Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister himself. After committee approval, the sanctioned amount is directly transferred to the hospital or patient’s account, so that there is no interruption in the patient’s timely treatment.

2,106 cancer patients were helped in 4 years
Between 2021 and 2025, the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund provided financial assistance to 2,106 cancer patients in Gujarat, giving them a new lease of life. During this period, CMRF provided more than ₹31.55 crore for the treatment of 2,106 cancer patients. According to data shared by the health department, 450 blood cancer patients got relief, while 1,656 patients suffering from other types of cancer got relief.

Apart from helping with cancer, CMRF also provides substantial financial assistance for expensive and complex treatments like liver, kidney, heart and lung transplants.

Which institutions provide treatment?
Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute (GCRI) in Ahmedabad, Nathlal Parikh Cancer Research Institute in Rajkot and B.T. Big medical institutions like Savani Hospital, Bharat Cancer Hospital in Surat and Kiran Multi-Super Specialty Hospital and AAIHMS are playing an important role in providing help under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

All these hospitals provide modern cancer care facilities and ensure timely treatment under the supervision of expert doctors for cash-strapped patients.
