Mumbai Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, convicted in the Unnao rape case, got bail. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray said that the entire world is shocked by the suspension of Kuldeep’s jail sentence. Aditya Thackeray wrote on social media platform Furthermore, the police misbehavior with the victim and her mother when they protested against the rapist is extremely shocking. He said that while countries and people around the world have seen this and will talk about it, in India the people protesting are being suppressed in a dictatorial manner and ministers are making fun of the protests. The Shiv Sena leader said, have we stooped to this level? The accused of rape, who should have received the harshest punishment, has been granted bail? Is this justice? Is this common knowledge? Is this even humanity? He said that we cannot stop speaking and protesting about this until the culprit is brought to justice. Let us tell you that the Delhi High Court has granted bail to former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar by staying his life imprisonment in the 2017 Unnao rape case. However, Kuldeep Sengar will not be able to come out of jail as he has been convicted in the murder case of the victim’s father.
In its judgment on Tuesday, a bench of Justices Subramaniam Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar suspended the sentence of Kuldeep Sengar pending the appeal against his conviction. The pending appeal challenges the trial court’s decision in which he was convicted for the rape of a 17-year-old girl. The trial court had sentenced him to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh.
While granting bail to Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the High Court has imposed many conditions. For bail, Kuldeep Sengar will also have to give a bond of Rs 15 lakh. The court said in its order that the bail will remain intact until the decision is taken on the appeal filed against the lower court’s conviction. –
