The tenure of the United Nations Mission UNMHA in Yemen’s port city Hudaydah has been extended by two more months. This mission will now end on March 31 this year. For this the Security Council has approved the proposal. On Tuesday, Britain presented resolution 2813 (2026) in the Security Council, which got the support of 13 countries and no country opposed this proposal. China and Russia abstained from voting. The resolution calls for the United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA) has been said to be abolished in a safe, effective and phased manner. At the same time, emphasis has been laid on preparations to hand over the remaining responsibilities of the mission to the Office of the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen. The process to formally wind down the mission will begin on April 1. UNMHA was established by the United Nations Security Council in 2019. Its purpose is to resolve the conflict between the internationally recognized government and the Houthi-led armed groups in Stockholm, Sweden. agreements This agreement was reached with the mediation of the United Nations at a time when the fear of conflict over Hudaydah was increasing. Hodeidah is a key city for the entry of food and medicines into war-torn Yemen. Britain’s Deputy Permanent Representative Archie Young welcomed the extension of the mission’s tenure. He also thanked UNMHA officials “who have worked under increasingly difficult circumstances since 2019, particularly when sanctions imposed by the Houthi side have made it difficult for the mission to carry out its responsibilities.” Concerns He said the safety of UN personnel in Yemen is of “the utmost importance” and Britain again condemned arbitrary arrests by the Houthis. The rebel group, which controls large parts of the country, including the capital, is detaining 69 UN staff. These also include people associated with non-governmental organizations, civil society and diplomatic missions.United Nations Secretary General Antonio GuterresSpecial Envoy Hans Grundberg, and other senior officials, to all those detained immediate and unconditional release Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative Anna Evstigneeva explained why her country abstained from voting. He said that the host country Yemen and some regional partners had requested not to create obstacles in the way of the adoption of this resolution. “In principle, we do not agree with the argument put forward by the authors of this document that UNHMA is ineffective and unable to fulfill its obligations assigned by the Security Council, and should therefore be abolished.” According to him, the Mission “has played and continues to play an important stabilization role on the ground, even though its functioning “There may have been some operational challenges from time to time.” He said the mission’s role remains important, including monitoring the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement, helping maintain civil use of the ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Isa, and overseeing landmine clearance.
