Mumbai, June 18 (). Actor Divyendu Sharma, who plays the role of Munna Tripathi in the popular series ‘Mirzapur’, has a huge fan following. He has created a distinct identity on the basis of hard work and talent. When he was asked during an interview, what would Munna Tripathi say if he met megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Divyendu replied with a smile, “You become our father.” His answer was much talked about.
Divyendu Sharma was born on 19 June 1983 in Delhi. He graduated in Political Science from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. It was during his studies that he started getting inclined towards acting. He took acting training from FTII, Pune after being active in college theatre.
After learning acting, he moved to Mumbai, but here he had to struggle for a long time. In many interviews he told that there was a lot of work shortage in the initial days. Before getting a chance in films, he worked in many advertisements. Also witnessed a period of financial crisis. There was a time when he used to save some money every day, so that he could eat food when needed. However, he did not give up and continued giving auditions.
In the year 2007, he got a role for the first time in the film ‘Aa Jaa Nachle’. His role in the film was very small, so he did not get much recognition. The real change came in the year 2011, when he was seen in the role of ‘Liquid’ in the film ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnaam’. The audience liked his character so much that he became famous overnight. For this film, he also received the award of Best Male Debut and he started gaining recognition in the industry.
After this, Divyendu worked in films like ‘Chashme Baddoor’, ‘Ikkis Topon Ki Salaami’, ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’. His acting in these films was appreciated, but he did not achieve the stardom he expected. The biggest turning point in his life came in the year 2018.
The web series ‘Mirzapur’ released on the OTT platform changed his fortunes. He acted in the character of ‘Munna Tripathi’ in such a way that the audience went crazy about him. People liked his style, dialogues and screen presence very much. This character became so popular that even today people call him ‘Munna Bhaiya’. Later, he also appeared in other projects including ‘Bichchu Ka Khel’ and ‘The Railway Man’, where his work was highly appreciated.
He considers Amitabh Bachchan as his inspiration. In such a situation, when he was asked in an interview from the perspective of Munna Tripathi that if Munna gets Amitabh Bachchan and what would his character say?, Divyendu Sharma replied in a funny manner. He said, “It is better not to say anything in front of Bachchan Saheb, but if you have to, he will say – ‘You become our father.'”
Divyendu also received many honors for his acting. He received the Best Male Debut award for ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’, while he received many nominations and awards for the role of Munna Tripathi in ‘Mirzapur’. His name is counted among the most popular artists in the world of OTT today.
