During the NDTV Golf Pro-Am launch event, Kapil Dev said that many people consider golf to be a simple game, but due to the smaller target, golf is a tougher game than cricket. Golfers have to work with extremely fine margins, making the game much more challenging.
Kapil Dev is the President of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).
The former Indian captain said that golf training is also very difficult. 90 percent of players leave the game within the first 15 days of training.
Elaborating on golf, Kapil Dev said, “The smaller the target, the tougher the game. In cricket, you can hit 360 degrees and still score. In golf, the slightest miss puts you out of the game.”
He said that after losing in golf, people leave the game in despair. I want the contestants to win and get back on the golf course. Express yourself and enjoy the game. This is the most important thing.
Kapil Dev said, “You don’t get greenery on a cricket field. Golf is a game you can play at any age. It is very difficult for a cricketer or a footballer to bowl or run at the age of 50. Here, you can play with your father, your grandchildren, your friends, your wife. That is why this game is big and becoming popular.”
Amitabh Kant said, “The most promising sport in India right now is golf. India will produce all the top champions in the world. Our population is very young. Our average age is just 28 years. For the next 30 years, the world’s top golfers will come out of India.”
