Once again affecting the pockets of the general public, two big dairy companies of the country have increased the prices of milk. After Amul, now Mother Dairy has also announced increase in milk prices on Wednesday. The new rates of both the companies have come into effect from May 14.
According to the new prices, there has been an increase of up to Rs 2 per liter on major variants and packs of milk. This is likely to have a direct impact on the household budget of millions of consumers who buy milk daily.
According to Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which operates the Amul brand, the decision has been taken due to rising costs of animal feed, packaging material and fuel. The organization has clarified that this increase is between 2.5% to 3.5%, which is in line with the increase in production costs.
Amul said that this is the first time after May 2025 that milk prices have been revised. The company says that efforts were being made to keep the costs stable for the last several months, but due to the continuous increase in input costs, it has now become necessary to increase the prices.
On the other hand, Mother Dairy had also earlier increased the prices of milk in April 2025. Now once again the price hike is causing concern among consumers, especially those families who use milk extensively on a daily basis.
Experts say that animal feed prices, transportation costs and packaging expenses are continuously increasing in the dairy industry, which directly impacts the price of the final product. In such a situation, companies are left with limited options other than increasing prices.
This increase in milk prices is also being linked to the broader trend of inflation. This increase could create additional pressure for the common consumer amid continued fluctuations in food costs.
At present, both the companies have indicated that further prices will be decided on the basis of market conditions and costs. It has become important for consumers to take these changes into account in their monthly budget.
