Common people have got another big shock of inflation. The prices of domestic LPG (LPG) cylinders have been increased by Rs 29. The new rates have come into effect from 12 midnight on Sunday. After the price increase, the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in the capital Delhi has increased from Rs 913 to Rs 942. This is the second time in the last three months that the prices of domestic gas cylinders have been increased. Earlier on March 7, oil marketing companies had increased cylinder prices by Rs 60. After the latest increase, domestic LPG cylinder has become costlier by a total of Rs 89 since March.
Prices increased by Rs 89 in three months
After the increase of Rs 60 in March, consumers will now have to bear an additional burden of Rs 29. The continuously increasing gas prices have started affecting the household budget. Kitchen expenses have increased further, especially for middle class and lower income group families. Experts say that the continuous increase in LPG prices has a direct impact on the monthly cost of homes, because gas cylinder is an important part of the daily needs of most families.
Why were the prices increased?
According to news agency sources, oil companies say that due to the increase in the prices of energy products in the international market and losses on sales in the domestic market, the decision to increase the prices of LPG cylinders has been taken. The companies claim that there was a gap between the cost and selling price for a long time, due to which the financial pressure was increasing. For this reason it became necessary to revise the prices.
Increased concern of common people
The continuous increase in the prices of domestic gas cylinders has increased the concern of the common people. With the cost of food items, electricity, transport and other essential services already rising, the cost of LPG will put additional pressure on the household budget. Many consumers say that the increase of Rs 89 within three months is too much and its impact will be directly visible on the monthly expenses of the family.
Prices will increase in other cities also
Apart from Delhi, the prices of domestic LPG cylinders have also been increased in the same proportion in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and other cities. However, final prices may vary depending on local taxes and transportation costs.
Can prices increase further?
Energy sector experts believe that if the prices of crude oil and gas remain high in the international market, then pressure on LPG prices may remain in the coming months also. However, the final decision will depend on oil marketing companies and government policies.
At present, after the latest increase, crores of LPG consumers across the country will have to pay higher prices for LPG than before.
