Banks will remain closed in Imphal, UP, Kerala, Kolkata, Kohima, Assam, Chandigarh, Jammu, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Srinagar, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Manipur. Except these areas, banks will remain open in all other states. In these specific areas, banks will remain closed due to Eid-ul-Adha. This festival is also known as Bakri Eid or Eid-ul-Zuha. It is a major festival celebrated by the Muslim community. On this day, people offer namaz and remember the spirit of sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim.

This year, there was a lot of confusion over the exact date of Bakri Eid – specifically, whether banks would remain closed on May 27 or May 28. As a result, banks are observing holidays on different dates in different states. In some states, banks will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27, while in other states they will remain closed on Thursday, May 28. Today, 26th May, banks are closed in the state of Tripura. Public and private sector banks have been given a holiday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam. When will banks remain closed in May?
If you have planned to do any important work related to banking in the last week of May, then do not forget to check the list of holidays in advance. According to the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar, banks will remain closed in many states on the occasion of Bakri Eid (or Eid-ul-Azha) on May 27. Apart from this, due to May 31 being a Sunday, banking operations will remain closed across the country. However, the schedule of Bakri Eid holidays will not be the same in all states. For example, banks in Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed for two consecutive days – May 27 and 28. In most other states, banks will remain closed for only one day due to Bakri Eid.
Although bank branches will remain closed, digital banking services will remain operational. Customers will be able to easily transfer money, pay bills and complete other important banking needs through UPI, mobile banking and internet banking. Online services like NEFT and RTGS will also remain operational.
