These changes will have a direct impact on those customers who use ATMs. From April 1, 2026, many banks including HDFC Bank are preparing to make changes in cash withdrawal limits, transaction fees and other terms and conditions. As a result, the method of withdrawing money from ATM and the associated charges will no longer be the same. Therefore, it is very important for customers to understand these new rules so that they do not have to face any kind of trouble.

HDFC Bank implemented changes

HDFC Bank has decided to add UPI-based ATM cash withdrawals to its free ATM transaction limit. This means that after the limit is crossed, customers will have to pay additional charges for every subsequent ATM transaction. These new rules will come into effect from April 1, 2026. Under the new rules, once the free transaction limit is reached, customers will be charged ₹23 (plus applicable taxes) for every additional ATM transaction. HDFC Bank has set the free transaction limit at 3 for metro city customers and 5 for non-metro city customers; This fee will be applicable on every transaction made after this.

PNB reduced the limit for withdrawing cash from ATM

From April 1, Punjab National Bank (PNB) is going to reduce the cash withdrawal limit on some debit cards. According to the new rules, while earlier customers could withdraw up to ₹1 lakh per day, now the bank has decided to reduce this limit to ₹50,000. This rule will be applicable to select debit cards. Additionally, the bank has also reduced the daily cash withdrawal limit for some of its premium debit cards. Earlier, customers could withdraw up to ₹1.5 lakh using these cards; However, now this limit has been reduced to ₹75,000.

Bandhan Bank also made changes in ATM rules

Bandhan Bank has also made changes in the rules related to ATM transactions for its customers. Now customers will be allowed only 5 free financial transactions per month at the bank’s own ATMs, while the limit for transactions at other banks’ ATMs has been reduced to 3. For transactions exceeding the limit, there will be a charge of ₹23 for each additional transaction.
