The beginning of the new financial year is going to be a bit difficult for HDFC Bank customers. The bank has increased its locker rent by a whopping 184% and has also tightened the rules for withdrawing cash from ATMs. Let us know what changes are going to happen for HDFC Bank customers in the coming months…
Locker Rent: Huge increase of up to 184%
The bank has changed the annual locker rent. Customers with extra-medium and small lockers will be impacted the most. In metro cities, extra-medium locker fare has increased from ₹4,400 to ₹12,500, an overall increase of 184%. At the same time, the rent of extra-small locker has increased from ₹ 1,350 to ₹ 3,300, i.e. an increase of 144%. The bank has launched a new premium category, Metro Plus, which will have even higher charges. For an extra-large locker, you may have to pay up to ₹40,000 per year. Apart from this, Aadhaar-based biometric verification will now be required to use the locker.
Withdrawal of cash from ATM through UPI is no longer free!
Till now, many customers were able to withdraw cash from ATM using UPI without card, but this will change from April 1, 2026. Cash withdrawals made using UPI will now count towards your monthly free ATM transaction limit. Even if you exceed your limit of 5 free transactions (at HDFC ATM), you will still be charged ₹23 + GST per transaction for withdrawing cash using UPI. The aim of the bank is to promote digital payments instead of cash transactions and to cover the increasing maintenance expenses of ATMs.
Banking is gradually becoming expensive and digital. This step of HDFC Bank can become an example for other banks, so it is wise to change your banking habits in time.
