The Central Government has announced big relief for the farmers troubled by the continuous fall in onion prices. Now the government will purchase onion from farmers at the fixed support price, so that they can be saved from financial loss.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made this announcement during an event organized in Satara, Maharashtra on Friday. He told that the government will buy onion from farmers at the rate of Rs 12.35 per kg i.e. Rs 1235 per quintal.
This step has been taken at a time when onion prices are continuously falling in the market, due to which farmers are facing difficulties in recovering the production cost. This decision of the government is being considered important in providing relief to the farmers and keeping their income stable.
According to agricultural experts, fluctuations in onion prices have a direct impact on the income of farmers. In such a situation, government procurement policy can help in creating balance in the market.
According to government sources, onion will be procured through various procurement centers under this scheme, so that more and more farmers can get its benefits. This will give farmers an opportunity to sell their produce at the right price and they will not have to depend on middlemen.
This announcement is being considered an important step for farmers, especially in those states where onion cultivation is done on a large scale. Its direct impact can be seen in major onion producing states like Maharashtra.
