Narendra Modi Cabinet has approved the 8th Pay Commission. The commission will present its recommendations after 18 months. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the terms and conditions of the Pay Commission. He said that 50 lakh central government employees will benefit from the recommendations of the commission. He also informed that defense services and about 69 lakh pensioners will benefit. The Union Cabinet has outlined the powers and functions of the 8th Pay Commission. Former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai has been appointed its president. The 8th Pay Commission is expected to present its recommendations within 18 months. IIM Bangalore professor Pulak Ghosh and Petroleum and Natural Gas Secretary Pankaj Jain will be its members.

Who will benefit from the Pay Commission?
Union Minister Vaishnav said that the government had approved in principle the 8th Pay Commission in January. The 8th Pay Commission has been constituted in such a short time that it requires extensive deliberations. Various ministries, including Defence, Home and Railways, which employ a large number of government employees, are being consulted. These terms of reference have been prepared after all these consultations.

Pay Commission will submit its report in 18 months
Vaishnav said that many state governments have also been consulted. He said that the recommendations of the commission will be received in 18 months. He told that Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai will be the chairperson of this commission. After the festivals of Diwali and Chhath Puja, this announcement of the Central Government is a big gift for the government employees. The central government had taken this decision even before the Bihar elections. However, it will take some time for the Pay Commission’s recommendations to come.
