new Delhi. CBI has taken major action in the case of fraud in giving loan to Videocon Group. The CBI on Friday arrested Chanda Kochhar, CEO of ICICI Bank, in this case. Chanda’s husband Deepak Kochhar has also been arrested by the CBI. In the year 2012, there was a disturbance in giving loan to Videocon. The CBI alleges that Chanda and Deepak Kochhar have taken advantage of Videocon in this case. The CBI has informed that Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak were summoned for questioning. After a brief interrogation, both were arrested.
According to the CBI, Chanda Kochhar and Deepak Kochhar were not answering the questions properly. Both were evasive. Both have been arrested for not cooperating in the investigation. Today both will be produced in the court. CBI will seek remand from the court to interrogate Chanda Kochhar and Deepak Kochhar. The CBI alleges that the instructions of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the lending policy of ICICI Bank were violated. Bypassing the policies, Videocon group companies were given a loan of Rs 3250 crore from ICICI Bank. The probe agency has alleged that following this credit facility, Videocon Group Chairman Venugopal Dhoot gave illegal benefits to Chanda Kochhar and Deepak Kochhar.
The CBI had earlier registered a case against Chanda Kochhar, Deepak Kochhar and Venugopal Dhoot of Videocon Group in this case. Apart from these three, a case of criminal conspiracy has also been registered against the companies Videocon Industries Limited, Supreme Energy, Videocon International Electronics Limited and NuPower Renewables. It is believed that by interrogating Chanda and Deepak Kochhar even further, the CBI may soon arrest other accused in the case.
