As the festival of Diwali is approaching, excitement is increasing across the country. People are busy cleaning and decorating their homes, shops and offices to welcome Lord Ram. Banks will remain closed for several days in different states for the country’s biggest festival Diwali. Keeping in mind the local beliefs associated with the festival, banks will remain closed on different dates in different regions. Here, we are giving detailed information about the holidays falling during Diwali.

How many days will banks remain closed for Diwali?
Most bank holidays are in October. Banks across the country will remain closed on Sunday, October 19. Subsequently, on October 20, all banks across the country, except banks in Maharashtra, Odisha, Sikkim, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar, will remain closed for the festivals of Diwali, Narak Chaturdashi and Kali Puja. On October 21, all banks in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed for Diwali Amavasya, Lakshmi Puja, Diwali and Govardhan Puja.

Banks will remain closed on 22nd and 23rd October also

On October 22, all banks in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will remain closed due to Diwali (Balipratipada), Vikram Samvat New Year, Govardhan Puja and Lakshmi Puja. Subsequently, on October 23, all banks will remain closed in Gujarat, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh due to Bhai Dooj, Chitragupta Jayanti, Lakshmi Puja (Diwali), Bhatri Dwitiya and Ningol Chakoba. In Sikkim, all banks will remain closed on October 21, 22 and 23 due to various festivals.

There are a total of 21 bank holidays in different states in October. In October 2025, there are 21 bank holidays in different states. Apart from four Sunday and two Saturday holidays, there are a total of 15 holidays due to various local festivals.
