Egg prices are breaking records this time in many big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna and Ranchi. There is no city where an egg is being sold for less than Rs 8 in retail shops. Eggs which were usually available at Rs 7-9 per piece, have become very expensive this winter. Both shopkeepers and buyers are wondering what has happened to egg prices this year? It’s only December, January is still left, so will prices increase further? Poultry experts say that if eggs were not sold at these high prices this year, it would have become very difficult to even buy eggs, leave alone last year’s prices. If we look at the market price of eggs, they have become costlier by 25 to 50 percent as compared to August-September. The entire month of January is still left. Therefore, there is speculation that prices may rise further.
Increased demand made eggs expensive
Nawab Akbar Ali, President of UP Poultry Association, said that with the arrival of December, the demand for eggs has increased significantly in the entire country. It’s not just about one city or state; The demand for eggs has increased everywhere. Uttar Pradesh alone requires 5.5 to 6 crore eggs daily, out of which 3.5 to 4 crore eggs come from other states. In UP, an egg is being sold for Rs 8 to Rs 10 in retail shops, while the wholesale price has reached Rs 7.5. The price increases further when transportation costs are added. Looking at the market, it seems that the wholesale price may increase by another 15-20 paise per egg. In such a situation, it will not be a surprise if eggs cost Rs 8.5 in January. The reduction in prices is expected from February itself.
If you don’t get the right price, eggs will be hard to come by!
Poultry Federation of India President Ranpal Dhanda said that if an egg is being sold for Rs 8, then it cannot be called expensive. Poultry farmers are getting the right price for eggs. In fact, poultry feed has been becoming expensive for the past several years, but egg prices have not increased. Every year a large number of farmers are closing their poultry farms, due to which egg production is decreasing. If they do not get good prices this time, it will be difficult to get eggs in future. It is noteworthy that government prices of corn and soybean, which are used in poultry feed, increase every year, but the price of eggs does not. Eggs in India are sold at the lowest prices in the world.
Cheapest Eggs in Namakkal-Hospet
According to the daily rates of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC), the cheapest eggs in bulk are being sold in Namakkal and Hospet, where the rate of 100 eggs is Rs 640-645. According to experts, these two are the largest markets for eggs in India. Most of the eggs exported to other countries come from Namakkal.
