Important initiatives are being taken towards making the public transport system of Bhagalpur city modern and environment friendly. Preparations to start electric bus service in the city have intensified. Under this project, necessary infrastructure will be developed to operate 50 electric buses.
According to the plan, 10 charging stations will be constructed for the smooth operation of electric buses. Along with this, a modern bus terminal will also be developed keeping in mind the facilities of the passengers. This entire project is being prepared on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at a cost of Rs 11.71 crore.
According to officials, with the start of electric bus service, there will be a major change in the city’s traffic system. Electric buses are more environmentally friendly than diesel and petrol powered vehicles and will reduce air pollution. Besides, comfortable and modern transport facilities will be available to the passengers.
Under the project, waiting room, digital information system, ticket counter, parking and other modern facilities for passengers will be developed in the bus terminal. The charging stations will be designed in such a way that the charging process of the buses can be fast and effective.
Experts believe that the operation of electric buses will not only reduce pollution but will also reduce the expenditure on fuel. This will make public transportation more affordable and sustainable.
The city residents hope that after the completion of this project, the transport system of Bhagalpur will be equipped with new technology and passengers will get better services. Additionally, this initiative will also strengthen the state government’s goal of green and sustainable development.
Officials say that work on the project is being carried out at a fast pace and a target has been set to develop the necessary infrastructure facilities within the stipulated time. After the start of electric bus service, Bhagalpur will join the select cities where modern and pollution-free public transport system will be available.
