As December begins, deadlines for many important tasks related to taxes, documents and government schemes are fast approaching. If you have been postponing tasks like PAN-Aadhaar linking, ITR filing, advance tax payment, or ITR return filing/correction, now is the time to be careful. These deadlines directly impact your banking, investment and tax profile. Therefore, it is very important to complete these on time. Let us look at the important tasks that you have to complete by December 31, because the government will not give you chances again and again.
Advance tax payment deadline
It is necessary to pay advance tax for those whose tax liability after TDS is more than ₹ 10,000. The last date for depositing the third installment is December 15. Delay in advance tax payment may attract both interest and penalty.
Last chance to file late ITR
If you have not been able to file your ITR on time for the financial year 2024-25, you have till December 31 to file your late return. However, you will have to pay late fees. Late fee for late filing of ITR ranges from ₹1,000 for those with income less than ₹5 lakh and ₹5,000 for those with income more than ₹5 lakh. If you do not file ITR late even by 31st December, you will lose the chance to file your return.
The deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linking is also 31st December.
Those whose Aadhaar card was issued on or before October 1, 2024, are required to link their PAN with Aadhaar by December 31, 2025. If you do not link your PAN with Aadhaar, your PAN will become inactive. This will also impact banking services, investment and demat account transactions, and ITR filing. You can easily link your PAN and Aadhaar through both the Income Tax e-filing portal and SMS.
Ration card e-KYC also necessary till December
In many states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan, the last date for ration card e-KYC has been fixed as December. Therefore, if e-KYC is not completed by December, the supply of government ration may stop from January 2026.
PM Awas Yojana deadline extended
The application deadline for PM Awas Yojana, under which financial assistance of up to ₹ 2.5 lakh is available for building a house, has also been extended till December 31. Interested candidates can apply online with their Aadhar Card, Income Certificate and Residence Certificate.
