A significant increase in the government treasury was seen in June. According to the latest GST data, India’s GST (Goods and Services Tax) collection increased by 13.9% year-on-year to ₹1.95 lakh crore (₹1,94,812 crore) in June 2026 from ₹1.71 lakh crore in June last year. Data released by the Finance Ministry shows that this increase in GST collection in June is the fastest increase in the last 13 months.

**Details of Government Revenue Sources**
The biggest increase in revenue came from taxes on imported goods, which increased by 34.6% to ₹60,038 crore from ₹44,608 crore in June last year. Revenue from domestic trade increased 6.5% year-on-year to ₹1,34,774 crore from ₹1,26,505 crore. Net GST collection rose 11.2% to ₹1,62,377 crore from ₹1,45,984 crore a year ago. At the same time, total refunds in June increased by 29.1% to ₹32,436 crore.

**State-wise performance**

Maharashtra topped the list with GST collection of ₹30,714 crore.

Karnataka and Gujarat also recorded collections of ₹12,937 crore and ₹11,743 crore respectively.

Among major states, Uttar Pradesh performed best; Its GST collection grew 19% year-on-year to ₹9,165 crore.

Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh recorded declines of 2%, 5% and 5% respectively.

Overall, the main reason for the increase in GST this year was the import of foreign goods. Additionally, strong domestic demand for goods and services has boosted GST collections. Additionally, improvements in the digital ecosystem and tax administration have also led to an increase in GST collections.
