On Tuesday, November 4, a huge fall was seen in the Indian stock markets. Sensex closed down 519 points, while Nifty fell below 25,600. Weak global cues, continued selling by foreign investors and weak second quarter results impacted stock market sentiment. Investors also appeared cautious due to mixed interest rate signals from the US Federal Reserve and uncertainty over the India-US trade deal.

At the end of trading, the Sensex closed at 83,459.15, down 519.34 points or 0.62%. The Nifty index fell 165.70 points or 0.64% to 25,597.65. The broader market also witnessed weakness, with the Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices falling around 1% each.

There was selling pressure in the market throughout the day, due to which the index remained near its day’s low. Almost all sectors closed in the red. The biggest decline was seen in IT, metal, banking and auto stocks. However, the consumer durables sector showed some strength and was the only major sectoral index to close in the green.

Loss of ₹2.72 lakh crore to investors
The total market capitalization of BSE listed companies today declined to ₹469.79 lakh crore, from ₹472.51 lakh crore on the previous trading day. As a result, the market capitalization of BSE listed companies declined by about ₹2.72 lakh crore today. In other words, investors’ wealth declined by about ₹2.72 lakh crore.

These 5 Sensex stocks gained the most
Today, out of 30 shares of BSE Sensex, only 5 shares closed in the green. Of these, Titan shares saw the highest increase of 2.28 percent. After this, shares of Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and State Bank of India (SBI) closed with gains ranging from 0.72% to 1.89%.

While the remaining 25 Sensex shares closed in the red. Power Grid closed with the biggest decline of 3.13%. Shares of Eternal, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), Tata Steel and Maruti Suzuki fell between 1.76% and 2.79%.

4,329 shares were traded
The number of shares closing with losses on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today was high. A total of 4,329 shares were traded on the exchange. Of these, 1,618 shares closed with gains, while 2,546 shares closed with a decline. 165 shares closed stable without any fluctuations. Moreover, 145 shares hit new 52-week high, while 91 shares hit new 52-week low during trading today.
