The rising prices of petrol and diesel across the country have further increased the troubles of the common man. Oil companies have increased prices several times in the last 13 days, and its impact is now directly visible on people’s household budgets. Till May 28, 2026 – that is, today – petrol and diesel are being sold at higher prices in most cities of the country. Fuel prices in India remain high due to tensions in the Middle East and rising crude oil prices in the international market. Experts say that if the current situation remains the same, prices may increase further in the coming days.

How much have fuel prices increased in the last 13 days?

According to media reports, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased by about ₹7 to ₹8 per liter in the last 13 days. During this period, prices were increased on four separate occasions. In Delhi, where earlier petrol was around ₹94–₹95 per litre, it has now crossed the ₹102 mark. Diesel prices have also increased by about ₹8.

Why are prices rising?

Due to the ongoing tension in the Middle East, the prices of crude oil are continuously increasing in the international market. Since India imports most of its crude oil requirement from abroad, the increase in prices in the global market has a direct impact on the domestic level. Additionally, the weakening of the rupee against the US dollar has made fuel imports even more expensive.

State/City Petrol (₹/Litre) Diesel (₹/Litre) Delhi 102.14 94.28 Mumbai 111.21 97.83 Kolkata 105.63 96.45 Chennai 104.98 96.12 Noida 99.84 91.12 Gurugram 100.45 92.08 Patna 110.34 96.89 Lucknow 101.22 93.41 Ahmedabad 99.92 94.16

Maximum impact in Delhi-NCR

In cities like Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram, lakhs of people travel to work in private vehicles every day. As a result, the continuous increase in fuel prices has completely ruined people’s monthly fuel budget. Auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers say that a large part of their daily earnings now goes just on fuel expenses.

Highest pressure in Mumbai and Patna

In cities like Mumbai and Patna, petrol prices have already reached around ₹110 per litre. The rising cost of transportation in these cities is now affecting the prices of vegetables, groceries and other daily essentials. Experts insist that the impact of rising fuel prices is not limited to vehicle owners only, rather it impacts the entire economy.

The common man’s budget has deteriorated

In the last few days, the prices of not only petrol and diesel but also CNG, milk and other essential commodities have increased. Due to this, the difficulties of the middle class and salaried people are continuously increasing. It is worth noting that if the prices of crude oil continue to rise like this in the international market, then the prices of petrol and diesel in India may increase once again.
