Why have prices been stable for the last two years?

From May 2022, the central government and many states have cut taxes, due to which the prices of petrol and diesel have remained stable. Although there are fluctuations in the international market, prices for Indian consumers have remained largely stable.

On what factors do fuel prices depend?

Crude Oil Prices:
Petrol and diesel are mainly made from crude oil. When international crude oil prices increase, it directly impacts the Indian market.

Rupee against dollar:
India imports most of its crude oil, and it is purchased in dollars. If the rupee weakens, fuel becomes expensive.

Government Taxes and Duties:
Central and state governments impose heavy taxes on petrol and diesel, which form a large part of the retail price. This is why prices differ in different states.

Refining Cost:
The process of making crude oil usable also involves costs. These costs depend on the quality of crude oil and the capacity of the refinery.

Balance of demand and supply:
If the demand for fuel increases in the market, the prices start increasing. Fuel consumption is especially high during festivals, summer or winter seasons.
