Crude oil prices have increased by about 16% in a week. Due to increasing tensions between the US and Iran, Brent crude prices have crossed $88 per barrel. Now the biggest question is whether the prices of petrol and diesel will increase in India also. For now, there is some relief: Government oil companies have not made any major changes in the prices of petrol and diesel across the country till Saturday, July 18, 2026. Prices have remained stable across the country since May 25, 2026, though some cities have seen minor fluctuations. Prices vary by city due to different VAT and freight charges in different states. So, if you are planning to fill your car’s tank today, it would be better to first check the latest prices in your city.
**Crude oil prices increased by 16% in a week**
There was a huge jump in global crude oil prices this week. Amid US-Iran tensions, Brent crude closed at $88.10 per barrel and WTI crude at $82.49 per barrel. Both benchmarks rose about 16% this week, reaching their highest levels since mid-June. However, there has been no significant change in the retail prices of petrol and diesel in India so far.

Today, prices of petrol and diesel remained stable in most cities of the country, although minor changes were recorded at some places.
**Petrol and diesel prices stable in many cities including Delhi and Patna**
Government oil companies today did not make any change in prices in many big metros and major cities of the country and the rates remained stable.
Current rates are applicable in National Capital Delhi; Petrol is stable at ₹102.12 per liter and diesel at ₹95.20 per litre. There was no change in prices today even in Gurugram adjacent to Delhi; Petrol is at ₹102.97 per liter and diesel at ₹95.64 per litre.
Petrol and diesel in Bengaluru are being sold at the same prices as before – ₹111.68 and ₹99.56 per liter respectively. Fuel prices remained stable in Bihar capital Patna; Petrol was sold at ₹113.37 per liter and diesel at ₹99.36 per litre.
Petrol price in Bhubaneswar is ₹108.97 per liter and diesel price is ₹100.68 per liter.
There was relief in Chandigarh too, where there was no change in prices; Petrol is available at ₹101.54 per liter and diesel at ₹89.47 per liter.
Today petrol and diesel prices increased in these cities
Today there was a slight increase in fuel prices in some cities, due to which the customers there had to spend a little more.
Petrol prices in Mumbai rose by 3 paise to ₹111.21 per litre, while diesel remained stable at ₹97.83 per litre.
Petrol prices in Kolkata rose marginally by 1 paise to ₹113.51 per litre, while diesel remained steady at ₹99.82 per litre.
In Noida adjacent to Delhi, prices of both petrol and diesel increased by 7 paise; After this increase, petrol is now available at ₹101.96 per liter and diesel at ₹95.44 per liter.
Today petrol and diesel prices decreased in these cities
The good thing is that today a significant reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel was seen in some big cities of South and West India.
Customers in Chennai have got huge savings today. Here petrol prices have decreased by ₹1.20 to ₹107.76 per liter and diesel prices have decreased by ₹1.19 to ₹99.55 per liter.
A significant reduction in fuel prices was also seen in Hyderabad today. Petrol prices there fell by ₹1.38 to ₹115.69, while diesel prices dropped by a huge ₹1.40, taking the price to ₹103.82 per litre.
There is relief in Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur also. Petrol has become cheaper by 42 paise to ₹113.19 per liter and diesel has become cheaper by 38 paise to ₹98.25 per litre.
In Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow, petrol prices dropped by 3 paise to ₹101.86 per litre, while diesel prices remained stable at ₹95.36 per litre.
**Government changed export duty**
Amidst the rising prices of crude oil in the global market, the Central Government has changed the excise duty on petroleum products from July 16. The government reviews these rates from time to time based on international crude oil prices and refining margins.
Export duty on diesel was increased from ₹8.5 to ₹15.5 per litre.
Duty on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) increased from ₹7.5 to ₹14.5 per litre.
At the same time, export duty on petrol was reduced from ₹4 to ₹2.5 per liter.
