Due to cancellation of Indigo flights, Railways has taken a big decision and has announced to run special trains. He has also announced to add 116 extra coaches in trains on many routes. Western Railway has decided to run a superfast special train on special fare between Sabarmati and Delhi Junction. According to Western Railway, train number 09497/09498 Sabarmati-Delhi Junction Superfast Special will run for a total of four trips.
In fact, a large number of passengers were not able to find any other means of travel between Ahmedabad and Delhi. Therefore, considering the convenience of passengers and the current demand, Western Railway has decided to run a superfast special train between Sabarmati and Delhi under the Train on Demand (TOD) scheme.
Train No. 09497 (Sabarmati-Delhi Special)
This train will depart from Sabarmati at 22:55 hrs on 7th and 9th December 2025 and reach Delhi Junction at 15:15 hrs the next day.
Train No. 09498 (Delhi-Sabarmati Special)
This train will depart from Delhi Junction at 21:00 hrs on 8th and 10th December 2025 and reach Sabarmati at 12:20 hrs the next day. In both directions, this special train will stop at Mehsana, Palanpur, Abu Road, Marwar Junction, Ajmer, Jaipur, Alwar, Rewari, Gurgaon and Delhi Cantt stations. The train will have AC 3-tier coaches.
This special service will cover a total distance of 925 kilometers. The travel time from Sabarmati to Delhi will be approximately 16.20 hours, while that from Delhi to Sabarmati will be approximately 15.20 hours. Railways says that this system will provide safe, reliable and timely connectivity to passengers in sudden circumstances like flight cancellation. Booking for train number 09497 will open from 6th December 2025 at all PRS counters and IRCTC website. Railways said that information about routes, stoppages, timings and coaches has been made available on www.enquiry.indianrail.gov.in.
Railways added 116 coaches in 37 premium trains.
According to the news agency, similarly, in view of the sudden increase in passenger demand after a large number of flights were canceled across the country, Indian Railways has added 116 additional coaches in 37 premium trains. These coaches have been installed in 114 extended trip trains in different parts of the country. According to the Railway Ministry, the maximum number of coaches has been added by Southern Railway (SR), which has increased the capacity of 18 trains. Additional chair cars and sleeper class coaches have been added on high-demand routes, the statement said. This increase has been implemented from December 6, 2025, which will significantly increase the availability of seats for passengers in the southern region.
It further said that Northern Railway (NR) is second with an increase of 8 trains, where 3AC and chair car coaches have been added. These measures, which are effective from today, will improve seat availability on busy routes in North India. According to the ministry, Western Railways (WR) has also increased capacity by adding 3AC and 2AC coaches in four high-demand trains. This increase will be effective from December 6 and will help manage the increasing passenger pressure from western regions to the national capital.
East Central Railway (ECR) has increased the capacity of Rajendra Nagar-New Delhi (12309) service and added additional 2AC coaches on five trips between December 6 and 10, 2025, ministry officials said. This will strengthen travel facilities in Bihar-Delhi sector. He said East Coast Railway (ECOR) has also improved connectivity between Odisha and the capital by adding 2AC coaches during five trips on Bhubaneswar-New Delhi services (train 20817/20811/20823). Elaborating on the arrangements made by the Eastern Railway (ER), the Railway Ministry said that it has added additional coaches in three main trains. Sleeper class coaches were added during six trips on 7 and 8 December to meet the increased regional and inter-state travel demand in the eastern region. The press note further informed that Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has also ensured uninterrupted travel facility for passengers in the North Eastern region by adding 3AC and sleeper coaches for eight trips in each train in two important trains between December 6 to 13, 2025.
Apart from these additional measures, Indian Railways is also running four special train services for the convenience of passengers. Officials said that Gorakhpur-Anand Vihar Terminal-Gorakhpur Special (05591/05592) will run four trips between December 7 and 9. New Delhi-Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan-New Delhi Reserved Vande Bharat Special (02439/02440) will run on 6th December, which will provide fast and comfortable connectivity to Jammu region.
He further informed that in view of the increasing demand in the western direction, New Delhi-Mumbai Central-New Delhi Reserved Superfast Special (04002/04001) will be run on 6th and 7th December. The ministry also announced that Hazrat Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram Central Reserved Superfast Special (04080) will be run as a one-way service on December 6, providing long-distance connectivity to the southern region.
