A big news has come out regarding the supply of LPG gas. A ship (tanker) named ‘Jag Vasant’ has reached Kandla port. This ship has reached Gujarat via Strait of Hormuz. This ship is loaded with more than 42,000 metric tons of LPG gas. This consignment has come at a time when there is a lot of uncertainty regarding energy supply across the world. Kandla Port Authority said that the gas will be unloaded today itself through “mid-sea transfer”. Mid-sea transfer means that gas is transported directly from a ship at sea to another system or port facility. Due to this, the work of unloading gas is done faster, time is saved and the process of starting the supply also becomes faster.
It is expected that this large consignment will further strengthen the availability of LPG gas within the country—especially when there is currently a lot of instability in the energy supply in the international market. Kandla port is one of India’s largest energy import hubs; From here LPG gas is sent to different parts of the country. The arrival of this consignment will help in keeping the domestic LPG supply stable and smooth in the coming days. It is worth noting that Iran has allowed only a few selected countries to pass their ships through the Strait of Hormuz. India is also among those countries which Iran has given permission to use this route.
How many tankers have reached India so far?
Despite the blockage in the Strait of Hormuz due to tensions between Iran and the US, four important Indian oil tankers have reached India safely. These ships were able to pass through there only because of special permission received from Iran. MT Shivalik (LPG) reached Mundra port on 16 March, while MT Nanda Devi (LPG) reached Kandla port on 17 March. Jag Ladki (carrying 81,000 tonnes of crude oil) reached Mundra port on 18 March. Additionally, a Liberian flagged ship *Shenlong*, carrying Saudi Arabian crude oil, reached Mumbai around March 11.
What are the latest news related to this conflict?
This struggle has now completed 28 days. Friday is the 29th day of America and Israel’s ongoing war with Iran. US President Donald Trump has said that for now, he will not attack Iran’s energy infrastructure for the next ten days.
